Uylenspiegel

Published across just two issues from 1856 to 1863, Uylenspiegel was a Belgian comic created by the singular Félicien Rops, who served as both writer and artist. Named after the legendary trickster Till Eulenspiegel, the series blended satire and social commentary with Rops’ characteristically sharp, expressive illustration. Though brief, it stands as an early European comic milestone, showcasing Rops’ pivotal role in the medium’s 19th-century development.
