W. Morgan Thomas is best known as the writer who brought Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, to life in American comics. Born in the United States, Thomas’s career spanned from 1938 to 1990, with credits on 128 issues. He first wrote Sheena for the British magazine *Wags* in January 1938, before she debuted stateside in Fiction House’s *Jumbo Comics* #1 in September 1938. Thomas crafted the adventures of the orphaned jungle girl, who communicated with animals and fought slave traders and wild beasts, making her the first female comic character to star in her own title—preceding even Wonder Woman. Thomas also wrote for *The Spirit* and *All Star Adventure Comic*, and collaborated with artist Bob Powell on several projects. His work helped define the jungle-girl genre, blending pulp action with a strong, resourceful heroine. Thomas’s later years saw less activity, but his co-creation of Sheena remains a landmark in comics history. He received no major awards, but his legacy endures as a pioneer of female-led adventure comics.
