Louis Salvérius, who sometimes signed his work as Salve, was a Belgian comics artist born on 4 December 1933. He is best remembered as the co-creator of the long-running Western series *Les Tuniques Bleues* (known in Dutch as *De Blauwbloezen* and in English as *Bluecoats*). Salvérius entered the comics field through the famed Brussels-based publishing house Dupuis, where he contributed to the magazine *Spirou* (titled *Robbedoes* in Flemish). His clean, expressive ligne claire style brought warmth and energy to the American Civil War–era adventures he helped launch. Working closely with writer Raoul Cauvin, Salvérius established the look and tone of the series, which follows the misadventures of two Union soldiers. He also illustrated the earlier series *Bud & Chester* for the German market. Tragically, Salvérius died of a heart attack on 22 May 1972 at just 38 years old. Following his passing, the art duties on *Les Tuniques Bleues* were taken over by Willy Lambil, who continued the series for decades. Though his career was cut short, Salvérius’s foundational work on the series remains a cornerstone of Franco-Belgian comics, and his contributions are credited across 70 issues in our catalog.
